Abstract:

This article aims at defining the nature of the relationship between economic growth, income inequality and governance in the region of Middle East and North Africa (MENA). To do this, we will start first by reviewing the literature. Then, we will try to analyze the relationship mentioned before using the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM). The sample of the study consists of 22 countries from the MENA region during the period 1996-2010 i.e. the years just before the outbreak of the "Arab Spring". The results show that the nature of the relationship between, on the one hand, growth and income inequality and on the other, growth and governance explains the outbreak of the "Arab Spring" in most countries of the region.
